The results of VNIRO's research in 2023 were recommendations on the locations and maximum possible volumes of release of young valuable fish species in the Norilsk region.
In 2024, as in 2023, fishery research on the Norilo-Pyasinskaya system was carried out by three teams: a lake team studying Lake Pyasino and its tributaries, a river team studying the Pyasina River and its tributaries, and a Norilsk team providing laboratory processing of samples coming from the fields. In 2024, the work of both field teams - lake and river - took place in difficult weather conditions. Frequent storms and squally winds tested the strength of people and equipment, caused sharp changes in the level of the Pyasina River, when in a matter of hours the water rises or retreats by 20-30 cm, threatening to leave the expedition flotilla aground. However, the coordinated work of the scientific team and the ship crews made it possible to overcome any difficulties that arose, and the expedition was carried out in accordance with the approved program.
This year, the Taimyr expedition of VNIRO will start in the coming days and scientists will also continue their research on the ecological rehabilitation of aquatic ecosystems and the restoration of their bioproductivity, biodiversity and the population size of valuable fish species.
On July 6, a prayer service was held in the Cathedral of the Icon of the Mother of God of All Who Sorrow Joy of Norilsk for the success of the Taimyr fisheries expedition of VNIRO.
The service was held by Bishop Agafangel of Norilsk and Turukhansk. In the assembly hall of the Norilsk diocesan administration, the expedition participants spoke about the work they had done in the framework of the research of the water resources of the Norilo-Pyasinsky basin, and Bishop Agafangel wished the scientists a safe journey and successful completion of all the tasks facing the expedition.
