The 13th session of the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organization Commission concluded in Santiago, Chile

Representatives of 17 member countries of the Commission discussed the fishing conditions and conservation measures for 2025. The main objects of fishing in the southeastern part of the Convention Area are horse mackerel, mackerel, giant squid, and in the southwestern part - bottom fish species.

Based on the assessment of the state of pelagic fish stocks and the conditions for their fishing, the Commission decided to further increase the TAC for horse mackerel in 2025. At the same time, the Russian quota for horse mackerel was increased by 25%. The mackerel fishery as bycatch this year will still not be limited.

Russia has been fishing for pelagic fish in the South Pacific for 50 years, including the period since 2013, when the regional Commission came into force.
