The 2nd stage of the VNIRO Amateur Fishing Championship “Fishing for Science” was held in Vologda

On July 23, the Vologda branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) held the 2nd stage of the VNIRO Amateur Fishing Championship "Fishing for Science". The winners of the 1st stage of the Championship from the Polar, Northern, Karelian and Vologda branches of VNIRO took part in the competition. The venue for the competition was the Kuzminsky Canal of the Northern Dvina Lock System in the city of Kirillov in the Vologda Region.
 
As a result of a tense competition of fishing skills and luck, the best VNIRO fisherman in the Northern Fisheries Basin was determined. He was an experienced field ichthyologist, Andrey Ignashev, a senior specialist in the laboratory of aquatic bioresources of the Vologda branch of VNIRO. He caught 37 specimens with a total weight of 980 grams. Participants' certificates were awarded to Vadim Timofeev, a junior specialist of the Northern branch (11 specimens, 340 grams); Mikhail Dvinin, engineer of the Polar Branch (2 specimens, 30 gr.) and Vladimir Bogdanov, driver-laboratory assistant of the Karelian branch of VNIRO (1 specimen, 20 gr.). The catches included roach, bream, bleak, white bream, ide, rudd, and perch.
 
After the awards ceremony, the participants of the competition went on an excursion to the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, where they learned about the history of the largest monastery in Russia.
 
The staff of the institute congratulates Andrey Ignashev on his well-deserved victory and the right to represent the Northern Fisheries Basin in the final of the VNIRO championship "Fishing for Science".
