The academic degree of candidate of biological sciences was awarded to a specialist from VNIRO

Nikita Yablokov, a leading specialist of the ichthyology laboratory of the Krasnoyarsk branch of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO), became a candidate of biological sciences following a meeting of the dissertation council at the Siberian Federal University.

The topic of his candidate dissertation was “Characteristics of accumulation of metals and fatty acids in white and red muscles of freshwater fish of Siberia”.

The aim of the work was to identify factors influencing the formation of red and white muscles in the main representatives of the ichthyofauna of Siberia, as well as to determine the characteristics of accumulation of fatty acids and metals in freshwater fish products, taking into account differences in muscles.

For the first time, the proportion of red muscles in the skeletal muscles of Siberian commercial fish species was determined, which made it possible to identify the dependence on the biotope, type of nutrition and locomotion. The obtained data on the fatty acid composition of the red muscles of perch, roach and pike confirmed their important role in intensive energy expenditure during swimming. The ability of fish to accumulate a significant amount of eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids in the red muscles indicates the high nutritional value of this part of the fish product.

“We sincerely congratulate you on the successful defense of your dissertation! We are confident that this achievement will become a new stage in the scientific career of our specialist and will open up new opportunities for research and professional growth. We wish Nikita Olegovich further success and new scientific discoveries!” - noted the head of the Krasnoyarsk branch of VNIRO Dmitry Kolesnikov.
