The second stage of comprehensive studies of Kamchatka crab stocks in the Barents Sea has been completed

Scientists of the Polar Branch, together with specialists of the VNIRO central office, conducted a comprehensive survey of Kamchatka crab stocks in the vast water area of the southern part of the Barents Sea (the exclusive economic zone of Russia), where this invertebrate species is currently being fished.

During the voyage, scientific research was carried out to study the patterns of spatial distribution of the Kamchatka crab and the features of its biology (size and sexual composition, sexual maturity, fertility, condition of the integument, diseases and parasitofauna). Complex oceanographic, ichthyological studies and collection of materials for the assessment of habitat pollution were also carried out.

Based on the analysis of the data obtained, scientists of fisheries science will make forecasts reflecting the dynamics of the state of commercial stocks of Kamchatka crab and bottom fish of the Barents Sea.
