Tyumen branch of VNIRO expands the geography of the fleet's operations

The fleet of the Tyumen branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) has completed navigation. The vessels are currently moored and undergoing scheduled repairs.

This year, the Tyumen branch of VNIRO has significantly increased the use of its own vessels in the implementation of the Priority Research Plan, off-budget expeditions and work on the artificial reproduction of valuable fish species. In total, the fleet worked "in the field" for more than 180 vessel-days - an increase compared to last year of almost 10%.

Using its own vessels, the branch carries out key scientific research as part of state monitoring in the Ob-Irtysh basin - this is a survey on the Ob, Irtysh and Severnaya Sosva rivers. On board, specialists conduct a primary analysis of fish and analyze the selected hydrobiological samples.

This year, a new expedition for the branch was conducted on its own vessel along the middle reaches of the Ob River and its tributaries in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Yugra. Fisheries science covered three of the largest tributaries in the Nizhnevartovsk region - the Vakh, Vatinsky Yogan and Kulyogan rivers. Comprehensive research was conducted in this area for the first time in the last several decades. After processing the collected material, the branch's scientists will be able to reliably assess the stocks of commercial fish, the state of aquatic ecosystems in the largest tributaries of the Ob River and give recommendations on possible volumes and fishing grounds - today this is especially relevant given the intensive development of the fishing industry in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Yugra.

Using its own fleet expands the geography of scientific research, preserves and increases the quality component of monitoring work when fulfilling a state assignment.
