In November of this year, VNIRO initiated a seminar on the basis of Murmansk State Technical University (MSTU) "Modern scientific publications: prospects and opportunities for cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO, UN) within the framework of the ASFA information database".
The seminar was attended by teachers and staff of MSTU, as well as scientists of the Polar Branch of VNIRO and the Murmansk Marine Biological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (MMBI RAS).
ASFA Editor-in-Chief Maria Kalenchits (FAO Secretariat, Rome, Italy) and Executive Editor of the ASFA Russian network Ekaterina Kulakova (VNIRO) introduced the seminar participants to the categories of membership in the regional segment of the international information system.
The speakers spoke about the strategy of finding relevant literature on the ProQuest database platform, as well as about the basic search functions for selecting sources on a given topic.
The range of the considered problematic issues also covered the possibilities of archiving full texts of articles and other documents in electronic repositories, such as AquaDocs, IODE/IOC, UNESCO. Another relevant topic was the specifics of the implementation of an additional search for full-text documents through the services of the international library catalog IAMSLIC.
The result of the work carried out was the decision of the Murmansk State Technical University to become an Associate Member of the ASFA and the willingness to send their scientific works to the international system for their subsequent citation.
