VNIRO scientists expand cooperation with Morocco

On October 20, the ATLANTNIRO vessel visited the port of Casablanca. The purpose of the call was to coordinate with Moroccan colleagues from the National Institute of Fisheries Research (Institut National de Recherches Halieutiques, INRH) joint work in the fishing zone of Morocco.

Russian scientists and their Moroccan colleagues discussed issues related to the implementation of upcoming scientific research. Together with Russian scientists, two Moroccan specialists will take part in the expedition on board the ATLANTNIRO STM.
 
The expedition is carried out in accordance with the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco on Cooperation in the field of marine Fisheries, signed on September 14, 2020 in Rabat and October 14, 2020 in Moscow (Article 5), and the Protocol of the second session of the Russian-Moroccan Mixed Fisheries Commission dated June 30, 2022.
 
The main purpose of the joint research is to determine the indices of the replenishment of the main exploited populations of small pelagic fish species in the Atlantic fishing zone of Morocco, taking into account various environmental conditions.
 
During the stay, the ship was visited by the Consul General of the Russian Federation in the port of Casablanca, Oleg Prokhorov, the Head of the Working Chamber of the North Atlantic (Casablanca), Mr. Sabri, the head of the territorial administration of the Department of Marine Fisheries, Mr. Eluada and their accompanying persons.
 
A tour of the ship was organized for the Consul General and his accompanying persons. The diplomats who visited the ATLANTNIRO STM were told about the vessel, the goals and objectives of the upcoming expedition. The Consul General and the Moroccan representatives thanked the ship's crew for the opportunity to get acquainted with the ship and the work of scientific laboratories. Everyone expressed a common opinion that joint fisheries research between Russia and the Kingdom of Morocco will actively develop.
