In the second half of July, specialists from the Polar Branch and the Department of Anadromous Fish of Russia of the Central Institute of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) conducted research aimed at assessing the numbers and living conditions of juvenile Atlantic salmon in the White Sea rivers of the Kola Peninsula, including the Umba and Varzuga rivers.
Based on the results of the research, it was concluded that the number of juveniles in both rivers is low. The use of predictive models will allow, using the data obtained, to assess the prospects for the dynamics of the number of salmon producers and the necessary measures to regulate the fishery to ensure the growth of its stock.
