The head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries Ilya Shestakov addressed the board members. He thanked the VNIRO team for their work in 2024 and expressed confidence in the successful implementation of all the tasks set in 2025. "The research vessel Vikenty Zaitsev was launched in July of this year. According to plans, the research vessel will begin operating on Lake Baikal in the spring of 2025. The vessel is equipped with modern equipment for conducting large-scale research. It is important that most of the equipment and components of the vessel are of domestic production. I would like to once again thank the entire VNIRO team for their good work this year. I am confident that in 2025 you will conduct all the planned research, achieve important results - I wish you drive, energy and success! "- the head of the department noted.
As part of the state assignment, VNIRO successfully implements large-scale expedition projects, as well as an extensive block of studies in freshwater bodies of important commercial importance. Scientists conduct multidisciplinary monitoring studies in all fishery basins of our country, study the state and maintain the bioproductivity of aquatic ecosystems, develop measures to reduce anthropogenic pressure on them, contribute to the conservation of valuable species of aquatic biological resources, such as sturgeon fish, Baikal omul, marine mammals.
Summing up the results of the event, VNIRO Director, Doctor of Economics Kirill Kolonchin noted important priority areas for 2025.
Undoubtedly, this is the Great African Expedition, which is supported at the highest level and has no analogues in modern Russia in terms of the scale of research, within which there is still a lot of work to be done. But absolutely correctly set tasks and development of a strategy for the development of research in the World Ocean with, of course, the support of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, will allow us to achieve all the goals set within the established time frame. I would like to congratulate all of us on such a large-scale event on assigning VNIRO the status of a State Scientific Center of the Russian Federation. I hope that we will continue to develop in this direction.
The work of the board ended with the awarding of departmental awards from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation and the Federal Agency for Fisheries, as well as VNIRO awards to heads of branches demonstrating high performance in scientific and management activities.
