The key objective of the branch is to study the species of commercial fish and other aquatic organisms in the Far Eastern seas and assess their numbers. Scientists’ data on aquatic bioresources allow them to make decisions on how much fish can be caught without harming the environment.
After a lecture by researchers from the Laboratory of Biological Resources of the Far Eastern and Arctic Seas on marine research and other key areas of the institute’s activities, the children were shown thematic exhibits dedicated to the inhabitants of the seas and oceans, as well as the history of the development of fisheries science in the Far East.
Special attention was paid to the unique capabilities of marine inhabitants.
At the end of the visit, many schoolchildren were happy to take a souvenir photo with a pillow in the shape of pollock, a common commercial fish. Perhaps someone will remember such an easy-to-cook, tasty and healthy dish as "pollock on a pillow".
Popularization of industry science among young people is one of the priority tasks of VNIRO.
