The crew and scientific group of the ship STF «Atlantida» have completed the complex work on the research of the krill stocks in the Antarctic part of the Atlantic Ocean last week. The icebergs and the huge ice walls are behind us. The ship is now returning to the port of Kaliningrad but is scheduled to call in early April for bunkering at the port of Montevideo (Uruguay).
The journey home at the beginning was not very easy due to the weather conditions. For several consecutive days, the vessel passed through a cyclone zone with strong storm winds of more than 20 m/s and towards high waves (4-5 m). By the end of the week, the weather had improved.
The Scientific group has started the processing and analysis of the voyage data and the preparation of the voyage report. In addition, in accordance with the Flight Assignment at the Kaliningrad crossing, research and development activities were initiated. We have installed search acoustic equipment, we also have visual surveillance of the sea, and we are keeping records of marine mammals and birds.
As of 29 March, with research work 1,184 miles have been passed.
