Scientists are preparing to conduct research

The VNIRO scientific group on board the TINRO scientific vessel is preparing to conduct research on Pacific salmon. The vessel has already entered the Bering Sea and is on its way to Alaska.

Scientists check the equipment and prepare laboratories. Along the way, observations of marine mammals are conducted – animal encounters are recorded in a special journal. In determining the species of animals encountered, scientists are assisted by a methodological guide developed by the profile laboratory of the Pacific branch of VNIRO.

Specialists also train in putting on rescue suits in case of emergencies.

Weather conditions in the first days of the transition were favorable, but now a deep cyclone formed in the Bering Sea will force scientists to wait out the storm in a bay in Eastern Kamchatka.
