On January 24, the Central Institute of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) held a meeting of the Academic Council chaired by the director, Doctor of Economics Kirill Kolonchin, combined with the Industry Council on Fishery Forecasting under the Federal Agency for Fisheries.
As part of the Great African Expedition in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Mauritania, the entire planned range of scientific research was carried out from October 2024 to January 2025 on the vessels of the Atlantic branch of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) STM “Atlantniro” and STM “Atlantis”.
In 2024, employees of the Pacific branch of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) took part in more than 17 conferences. One of them was the 22nd international conference "Modern Problems of Remote Sensing of the Earth from Space", which was held at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow).
The navaga fishing season has started in Sakhalin. The "big fishing" is in full swing in Terpeniya Bay. The fishery is carried out with twin trawls by a small fleet.

Bonitirovka sturgeon

On January 16, specialists from the Ural branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) as part of the commissions for the implementation of state control, supervision, protection of aquatic biological resources and their habitat in the Chelyabinsk region took part in the assessment to update information on the replacement and broodstock of sturgeon of the Siberian-Ob population, kept in the cage line of the enterprise OOO Yuzhnouralskaya Trout.
In 2024, the hydrobiology sector was created as an independent division in the Baikal branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO). It included experienced specialists - candidates of science, postgraduate students and masters who study pelagic and benthic invertebrates.

New potential aquaculture object

Scientists from the Tyumen branch of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) are creating highly productive whitefish hybrids for pasture aquaculture.
In the period from November 27 to December 23, 2024, in the Unskaya Bay of the Dvina Gulf of the White Sea (Arkhangelsk Region), specialists from the Northern Branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) conducted research work to monitor the state of navaga stocks during winter fishing in pre-spawning aggregations.
Specialists of the Volga-Caspian branch of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) carry out work on monitoring artificial reproduction at fish farms of the basin branches of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Glavrybvod", are permanent participants in the commissions of the Territorial Administration on artificial reproduction, conduct scientific research in the field of artificial reproduction and commercial aquaculture, carry out activities on the artificial reproduction of aquatic biological resources at the Scientific and Experimental Complex of Aquaculture (NECA) "BIOS". The purpose of monitoring the activities of organizations on the artificial reproduction of aquatic biological resources and assessing the quality of released juveniles is to study the state of artificial reproduction of sturgeon species of fish. Russian sturgeon fish hatcheries release the bulk of sturgeon juveniles relative to the results of their Caspian partners, especially great success in the release of Russian sturgeon. The studies conducted together with the central institute of VNIRO to determine the share of fish of factory origin in research catches show the decisive share of Russian sturgeon, allow to determine the efficiency of fish farms.
On January 2, 2025, the STM Atlantis vessel entered the port of Nouadhibou (Mauritania) as part of the Great African Expedition.
