In May 2025, a herring survey was conducted in the northern part of the Caspian Sea on the research vessel "Gidrobiologist" of the Volga-Caspian branch of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO).
A cooperation agreement was signed between the Volgograd Region Administration and the Russian State Scientific Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” — the signatures were put in the presence of the head of the region Andrei Bocharov by Deputy Governor Vasily Ivanov and Director of VNIRO Kirill Kolonchin.

According to the Sakhalin-Kuril Territorial Administration of the Federal Agency for Fishery, as of May 26, the catch of masu salmon in the framework of amateur fishing amounted to 1,231 tons, and the catches are concentrated in the Aniva District.
The survey work on studying the dynamics and conditions of downstream migration of young Pacific salmon on the northeastern coast of Sakhalin Island will be carried out from May 22 to July 7 by joint efforts of scientists from the Department of Anadromous Fish of Russia of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) and the Laboratory of Salmon Fish of the Sakhalin Branch.
