The Elista Department of the Volga-Caspian Branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) annually carries out state monitoring of aquatic biological resources in the Kalmyk fishing zone in the Northern Caspian and in inland waters of the Republic of Kalmykia (Sostinsky Lakes), and takes part in solving urgent problems arising in the process of the activities of the fisheries complex of the Republic of Kalmykia.
In 2024, the West Caspian Department of the Volga-Caspian Branch of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) carried out all research work in the area of ​​responsibility, which includes the Dagestan coast of the Caspian Sea and inland water bodies of the Republic of Dagestan and other republics of the North Caucasus.
On the eve of the New Year, a ceremonial meeting dedicated to summing up the results of the outgoing year was held at the State Scientific Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO).
Sergey Sidorov, chief specialist of the regulatory support laboratory of the Polar Branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO), completed observations on the vessel VK-0733 “Andrey Smirnov”.
Researchers from the Pacific Branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) as part of the Russian delegation took part in the 5th meeting of the Small Scientific Committee on Bottom Fishes and Marine Ecosystems (SSC BF ME), the 14th meeting of the Small Scientific Committee on Pacific Saury (SSC PS), the scientific seminar “Introduction to the Assessment of Fishery Management Strategies”, as well as the 9th meeting of the Scientific Committee (SC) of the North Pacific Fishery Commission (SPFC). The goal of this international organization is to ensure long-term conservation and sustainable use of commercial resources of the convention area (open waters of the North Pacific Ocean).
In the second ten days of December, Samara State Agrarian University hosted the defense of the candidate's dissertation by Anastasia Kashirina, a specialist from the Volgograd branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO), on the topic: "Use of the protein-containing feed concentrate "Gorlinka" in feeding rainbow trout" for the academic degree of candidate of biological sciences.

The Northern Branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) summed up the results of the expedition work of the current year on December 24-25.
On December 19, Lomonosov Moscow State University hosted the defense of a dissertation for the degree of candidate of geographical sciences by Alexandra Sumkina, senior specialist of the Department of Climate Dynamics and Aquatic Ecosystems of the Department of Aquatic Bioresources and Their Environment of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO).
On December 24, a joint conference of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) and VNIRO was held at the site of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO).
