A new step in the study of salmon

VNIRO scientists returned to the port of Vladivostok after completing an international expedition to study salmon in winter, organized by the North Pacific Commission on Anadromous Fish. The work was carried out at NIS TINRO in the open waters of the Pacific Ocean.
Specialists of the Pacific branch of VNIRO are getting out into the sea on board the "Zodiac" scientific vessel. Scientists intend to investigate pollock stocks in the Primorye subzone during its spawning period, assess the background conditions for its reproduction, clarify the spawning dates and determine the spawn quantity.

The research took place in the Pacific waters of the Aleutian Islands as part of the International Year of Salmon. Comprehensive surveys were carried out to study the physiological state of salmon in winter, as well as studies of the content of microplastics in water.
