The Azov-Black Sea branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) continues its scientific research in the Northern Azov region. Today, the branch’s specialists are assessing the state of the Molochny Estuary.

Scientists from the Laboratory of Biological Resources of the Far Eastern and Arctic Seas of the Pacific Branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) collected data from September 11 to 15 on the location of recreational fishing sites on the coast of Primorsky Krai from Vladimir Bay to Nakhodka Bay, the number of recreational fishermen, fishing equipment and techniques during recreational fishing, and the composition of catches.

The Azov-Black Sea branch of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) is the only scientific institution that conducts a full range of fisheries research in the Northern Azov region.

At the initiative of the Vologda branch of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO), since 2014, events on the artificial reproduction of rare and valuable fish species have been carried out on an ongoing basis in the region using funds from compensation measures for damage caused to aquatic bioresources from economic activities. Scientific recommendations developed by the branch with calculations of the maximum permissible volumes of release of young fish are approved annually.

In September, the voyage on the research vessel "Issledovatel Kaspiya" was completed, during which employees of the Volga-Caspian branch of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) carried out annual work to assess the number, composition and condition of the ichthyofauna in the deep-water part of the Northern Caspian and the Middle Caspian. The research was carried out on a standard grid of stations, fishing was carried out with a 24.7-meter bottom trawl.

Fourth-year biology students (major in Biology, Ecology and Environmental Safety) of the North-Eastern State University (Magadan) are undergoing a two-week industrial practice to gain professional skills and experience in the chemical laboratory of ecology of fishery water bodies of the Magadan branch of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO).

On September 20, a visiting working meeting of the operational headquarters for the organization of the protection of the Baikal omul during the spawning period was held. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Buryatia - Minister of Agriculture and Food Galsan Dareev.

Specialists from the Magadan branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) have completed the main stage of scientific support for the salmon fishing season on the rivers of the Magadan Region in 2024.

Annual monitoring is conducted by the Yakut branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) in the lower reaches of the Lena, Yana, Indigirka and Kolyma rivers. Collection of material takes place mainly in the autumn during the mass migration of commercial fish species. Monitoring points are located in the fishing grounds of the Bulunsky, Ust-Yansky, Allaikhovsky and Nizhnekolymsky districts of Yakutia.

The Department of Molecular Genetics conducted a large-scale study of the genetic component of a rare sturgeon species, the sturgeon Acipenser nudiventris. The study used 275 sturgeon samples collected from 2000 to the present and stored in the UNI "Bioresource Collection of VBR" of the Russian State Research Center "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO).
