Annual monitoring is conducted by the Yakut branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) in the lower reaches of the Lena, Yana, Indigirka and Kolyma rivers. Collection of material takes place mainly in the autumn during the mass migration of commercial fish species. Monitoring points are located in the fishing grounds of the Bulunsky, Ust-Yansky, Allaikhovsky and Nizhnekolymsky districts of Yakutia.

Large-scale study by VNIRO

The Department of Molecular Genetics conducted a large-scale study of the genetic component of a rare sturgeon species, the sturgeon Acipenser nudiventris. The study used 275 sturgeon samples collected from 2000 to the present and stored in the UNI "Bioresource Collection of VBR" of the Russian State Research Center "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO).
The Elista Department of the Volga-Caspian Branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) annually monitors aquatic bioresources and the state of the fish habitat in the Sostinsky Lakes of Kalmykia.
In the current conditions of mass development of scyphoid jellyfish, Cornerota and Aurelia, in the Black and Azov Seas, scientists from the Kerch Azov-Black Sea branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) have developed and offer fishermen ways to reduce the negative impact of jellyfish on the fishery when using fixed seines.
The event program was a training for more than 80 young professionals from various subordinate organizations and universities from all over the country, aimed at developing state and municipal employees. It included lectures from speakers, group work and project creation.
On September 18, specialists from several leading Russian scientific organizations set off from the port of Murmansk on the research vessel Akademik Petrov to the Arctic seas of Russia along the Northern Sea Route (NSR).
On September 10 and 19, specialists from the Ural branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) conducted field trips to the water bodies of Yekaterinburg - Lake Shartash and Verkh-Isetsky Pond.

Comprehensive fishery research of Lake Polisto

From September 12 to 14, specialists from the Pskov and St. Petersburg branches of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) conducted comprehensive fisheries research on Lake Polisto in the Bezhanitsky District of the Pskov Region in order to study the current state of aquatic biological resources and their habitat.
The 2024 International Fishery Forum hosted the presentation of the FAO flagship report The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2024 (SOFIA) and the results of the 36th session of the FAO Committee on Fisheries (COFI), where the speaker was, among others, the Director of the Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO), Doctor of Economics Kirill Kolonchin.
The VII International Fishery Forum hosted a presentation of the best projects by students and postgraduates of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, winners of the 2024 competitions.
