Scientists of the Azov-Black Sea branch of VNIRO have started studying the growth and development of oysters from Vladivostok in the waters of the Black Sea. The research is carried out jointly with colleagues from the Pacific Branch.

Aquaculture is a driver of the development of the fisheries industry and one of the priority areas of activity of scientists of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography.
The network of fish-breeding facilities in many regions of Russia is rapidly expanding. For example, in Primorye, more than 300 marine fish breeding sites have been created for the artificial cultivation of various fish species and other aquatic biological resources, however, only a few of them successfully pass state environmental expertise.

Thus, thanks to the competent scientific approach and professionalism of scientists of the Pacific branch of VNIRO, 4 fish breeding sites used by TINRO received permission to carry out commercial fish farming.

The plots are located in the Primorsky Territory - together with two other accredited fish breeding sites of the branch, they form an effective production base for the development of innovative research in the field of mariculture.

At the new sites, scientists and specialists of the Pacific branch of VNIRO plan to grow such valuable species as seaside scallop, Far Eastern trepang, Japanese kelp (saccharine).

During the development of the research program, scientists conducted a complex of long-term monitoring observations: they studied the condition of the bottom biotopes of these water areas, the features of natural settlements of hydrobionts, the conditions of their reproduction.

The systematic analysis of important environmental factors and environmental parameters carried out by scientists provided a positive decision of the state environmental expertise.

In the period from March 15 to 17, 2023, an annual meeting of scientists of the Polar Branch of VNIRO, Murmansk and Norwegian specialists of the Institute of Marine Research (BIMI, Bergen) is held in videoconference mode.
As part of the expedition, scientists will conduct an accounting trawl survey to assess the state of stocks of demersal fish species, the number of replenishment of cod, flounder river. The size and age composition of bottom fish, the peculiarities of their distribution and reproduction conditions will also be studied.

Interim results of the work of NIS "Vilnius"

The research vessel (NIS) of the Polar Branch of VNIRO MK-0102 Vilnius continues its work in the Barents Sea.

On February 1-2, a reporting session of the Federal Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography was held in Saratov, where VNIRO scientists presented the results of applied scientific research carried out in 2022.

During the bonitation at the sturgeon hatcheries of the Azov-Black Sea basin, subordinated to the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Glavrybvod", scientists of the Azov-Black Sea branch of VNIRO performed studies that contribute to the optimal conduct of the spring spawning campaign at reproductive enterprises. The assessment of the condition and productive qualities of producers of Russian sturgeon, sturgeon, sterlet in repair and breeding herds was given. Of particular importance are the studies of the repair and breeding stock of beluga, conducted at the Don sturgeon plant.

Quality control of fish food products is the main task of technologists of the fisheries industry. VNIRO specialists in the field of standardization and rationing have been successfully developing methods for certifying the quality of products and assessing their food value for many years, which protects the market from counterfeiting and falsification.
